How to Stop Sugar Cravings

Had too much of a good thing over the Easter break? Now you have sugar cravings and want the next hit? Sugar is one of the most addictive substances, it actually works on the opioid receptors in the brain making it very addictive!

Here are 4 tips to stop those cravings in its tracks and get back on the healthy, vital living path…

  1. Fill up on big fibrous salads with good fats and healthy protein

Include leafy greens and salad vegetables, the fibre from these foods will help to fill you up. The healthy fats such as avocado, olives and seeds will stabilise blood sugar dysregulation. Healthy protein like organic eggs will reduce hunger and sugar cravings.

  2. Keep healthy snacks on hand

Those cravings can hit anytime and be persistent so having snacks such as fruit combined with fats is a good solution. The natural sugar will give you the fix while the healthy fats will moderate the blood sugar effect. Examples are; apples and walnuts, berries and macadamias, strawberries and pumpkin/sunflower seed mix.

  3. Exercise

If you get the craving go and move. Go for a walk, hit the gym or do a quick circuit at home. By the time you finish the work out you will be over the craving and be feeling positive about getting back on track.

  4. Take these supplements

Inositol - can help manage sugar cravings by balancing your neurotransmitter levels

Cinnamon - the potent polyphenols help to reduce sugar cravings by controlling blood glucose levels

L-Carnitine - it helps transports fatty acids into your cells mitochondria for energy use so can help you switch over to burning fats as a fuel.
